Orange County Half Marathon: Race Report
The Orange County Marathon/Half-Marathon was a fantastic race. I participated in the Half-Marathon. Therefore, I that's what I will review. The race took place on January 6th under spectacular weather, as it was overcast and in the 60's. The course was a little on the wet side as there was some rain the night before. What I liked most about the course was that it was on both city streets and bike paths. It is nice to have that kind of variety. Although, it was a bit hard to go up that last overpass. From my perspective the race was vary well organized with plenty of volunteers. The course had plenty of water and aid stations. I don't think it was every mile but it sure seemed like it. I ended up finishing in a 2:08 with a 10k split of 57 minutes. I felt fantastic all the way until about mile 10, then I started to slow down. Having never raced this distance before I can say that it was fun and I will absolutely do it again. If there was one thing that I learned on this race it is that I need to better protect my nipples. That body glide stuff just does not do it for me. Also, reason for doing this race was to prepare for the Calico 30k trail run a couple weeks later. That report to follow soon....
